Light Music Club

👋 Good morning, LMC!

Welcome to the Light Music Club, a space for musicians of all backgrounds to create and play music from anime, video games, J-pop, J-rock, vocaloids, and more! We are a branch of the University of Toronto Student Anime & Manga Association (UT-SAMA) based in the St. George campus.

Anisongs, OSTs, and More

Rock bands, jazz groups, and chamber ensembles formed at LMC have performed everything from video game soundtracks and anime openings to indie V-pop and jazz standards.

About

The Light Music Club (LMC) is the only university club in Toronto dedicated to performing music from anime, video games, and J-pop among other genres. It is a casual, student-led group comprised of volunteer musicians of all backgrounds and skill levels. The LMC prides itself on the diversity of its programmes, its openness to musicians whether experienced or new, and the hard work its members put in to bring songs to life.

LMC operations, from rehearsals to concerts, revolve around university semesters. The club centrally organizes repertoire but also encourages members to form independent ensembles, giving the opportunity for everyone to play music they personally enjoy.

History

Music activity in UT-SAMA dates back from 2011 to 2017, with several groups having taken on the “Light Music Club” label at different points in time. The current iteration of LMC began in September 2023 under the leadership of Stone, Sean, and Alexis. As a humble group of 13, the founding band of LMC made its inaugural performance at the UT-SAMA 20th Anniversary event in April 2024. Since then, LMC has hit many milestones:

  • 2024-08: First music cover on LMC Youtube channel
  • 2024-10: First self-organized concert
  • 2025-08: This website goes live!
  • 2025-09: LMC's ranks reach 50 members
